The Fort Atkinson Club
The Fort Atkinson Club opened under the same name, with a Grand Ball in 1913, with the purpose of serving the businessmen of Fort Atkinson and their families. This 3 story Craftsman style building of just under 6000 square feet spent much of it's life as the Billings Masonic Lodge. The Lodge includes Lounges with wood burning fireplaces, kitchens on 2 levels with dumbwaiter service, 2 regulation size bowling lanes, a floating dance floor at the basement(river)level, and the 3rd floor ceremonial room, complete with built in theater chairs for the members, a barrel vaulted ceiling, and two stages. The not for profit Rock River Heritage preservation group seeks to restore this important community architectural and cultural landmark to it's original use as a community center. Potential uses include before and after school programs, senior wellness programs, alternative classroom options for the School District, meetings, water activities, weddings, birthdays, and other events. The building has most interior spaces intact, but is in need of complete interior and exterior renovation to the period of significance of the Mason's purchase in 1931.
