Get Your TRICA Wings Here!

Brilliant. This was my word in 2007 when I found out Jon Swarthout had procured one of the 10 most endangered historical sites in Idaho (a 100 year old Immanuel Methodist Episcopal Church in my North End Boise Neighborhood) and planned to renovate the sandstone building in order to make it a permanent home for his education project TRICA (Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts). Before 2007, it was so sad to see the roof caving in, broken stained glass, subdivided apartments, vehicles without wheels and debris covering the front dead lawn. The early restoration effort confirmed the worst. It would need to be remediated due to meth residue left behind from the most recent dwellers. The remediation is finished and the community campaign, “Get Your TRICA wings,” for restoration has raised over $2 million with $600K to go. The theme is “There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: one is roots, the other is wings.” Jon has been engaging thousands of students, including my son, with dance, music and theater classes for years. He conducts these classes at a variety of venues in our area. I can’t wait until TRICA is home!
