Everett Square Theatre in Hyde Park, Ma

The Everett Square Theatre at 11 Fairmount Ave in Hyde Park, Ma was a vaudeville/ movie house built in 1915. Like RKO theatres, its ornate interior décor featured marble, brass and elaborate gilded plaster carvings. These details are still in evidence at the Everett Square Theatre as is Milton Berle’s signature scrawled on a backstage wall. Years of water damage caused by a roofing problem have wreaked havoc on this once sparkling jewel of Hyde Park The tragic disrepair of the Everett Square Theatre is something the Hyde Park neighborhood is passionate about correcting. Last year with the help of a grant the foyer was rehabilitated and a replica of the Everett Square Theatre Sign was fabricated and installed as the first visible step in reclaiming this magnificent building. Commemorated on January 6, 2012 by a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Mayor Menino led a jubilant countdown to switching on the light. “May this be just the beginning.” The disastrous effect franchise shopping has had on Main streets throughout the US has led to a decline in neighborhood pride. With the reparation of The Everett Square Theatre, Hyde Park hopes to rekindle Main Street and restore that pride.
