The Challenge?
Elegantly orchestrated moments of pattern can invigorate the starkest of interiors. Think of prints by Knoll, Albers, Day, Eames, Larsen—vibrant, geometric works—as the core complement to clean-lined furniture and interior architecture. That rich textile legacy is where this competition, sponsored by Lutron®, begins.
For this innovative design contest, Dwell and Lutron are together challenging you to submit your own mid-century inspired textile design for the ground-breaking Kirbé® vertical drapery system from Lutron—a shading solution that seamlessly moves the treatment up and down, all while maintaining fabric pleats.
The grand prize winner will receive $4,000 worth of Lutron product and their winning design will be showcased at Dwell on Design, on dwell.com, and will become a featured selection in Lutron's internationally sold collection of soft fabrics! Four finalists will also receive recognition.
Keep checking back to see recent submissions and tell us what you think! We’ll judge the submissions, and popular vote will determine one grand-prize winner and four runners up. Voting commences April 12th, so make sure to vote for your favorite.
Design Considerations + Criteria
If you're in it to win it, then your design must take into account:
- the fabric on the Kirbé vertical drapery system is pleated
- it is intended for use on a fluid polyester fabric
- straight lines, stripes, and rigid geometrics will become skewed by the pleats and fabric
How to Enter
To be considered, your submission must contain:
- a completed entry form with all required fields filled out
- 1 image of your pattern (submitted as a .jpg, .gif, or .png file)
- a brief description telling us the inspiration behind your creation
Judging Criteria
Our esteemed panel of judges will be selecting 10 finalists based on the following:
Voting + Winner Selection
Judges will select the finalists, but then it's up to you to vote for your favorite from April 12th through April 26th! Popular vote will decide:
- 1 grand prize winner
- 4 runners up
Prizing
The winning design will be:
- a featured selection in Lutron's soft fabric collection—–offered worldwide to high-end clientele
- showcased at the nationally acclaimed Dwell on Design trade show—–the West Coast's largest design event—–and on dwell.com
- publicized in a PR campaign—–launched to the professional design community
The grand prize winner will receive:
- a Lutron lighting package and automated drapery track—–retail value of $4,000
- recognition on Lutron.com and in other Lutron marketing materials
- a plaque and awards logo for independent marketing and promotional use
- the Lutron soft collection fabric binder including his or her winning design
Finalists' patterns will:
- be displayed at Dwell on Design
- receive honorable mention in a nationwide Lutron PR campaign
- be highlighted in Lutron marketing materials and in online campaigns
- be posted on dwell.com
Finalists will receive:
- industry-acclaimed Vierti™ dimmer for sleek, one-touch light control
- a plaque and finalist logo for independent marketing and promotional use
